The weather is restless and playing with the trees. They sway and shimmy in an impromptu winter dance causing me to worry for the wildlife living in their branches. I've watched the birds grow quiet and squirrels disappear to their nests as the day moved on.
The clouds have spent their moments flying by in dark threatening masses, holding a chill in the air and occasionally spitting a few drops of moisture on the landscape below. They seem to be practicing for a spectacular opening night.
While in town there is talk of a good winter storm coming, I am already home buckling in, tucking extra apple wood near the door (from the beauty which fell this summer), putting the kettle on & fluffing up the quilts to keep warm. I hope my little owlet and squirrel neighbors are doing the same.
